Nine Dragon Wall

Nine Dragon Wall

TBD — verify against 故宫博物院

  • A glazed tile wall from 1771 featuring nine vivid dragons.

This stunning glazed-tile wall was built in 1771 during Emperor Qianlong's reign. Nine vivid dragons writhe through clouds and waves across the 30-meter screen. Each dragon is unique in color and posture. Look closely at the third dragon from the east — one of its tiles was secretly replaced with wood by a craftsman who accidentally broke the original. The deception went unnoticed for over 200 years.
